Cezary Smorszczewski is the CEO/Founding Partner of Corviglia Capital Fund, a global fintech growth equity investor targeting $500M in commitments. He has 25 years of experience in finance and a long track record of investments in fintech.
Before establishing Corviglia Capital Fund, Smorszczewski was the Co-Founder/Deputy CEO of Alior Bank (2008-2013). Under his leadership, the bank became the first Polish fintech unicorn, selling for $2B on the LSE in 2012. Previously, he co-founded Private Equity Managers S.A., a firm that invests in fintech within the CEE/CIS/DACH regions. During his time as CEO/Managing Partner (2014-2016), assets under management doubled from $350M to $700M (four multistage funds from A round to PE) and $350M was fundraised for managed funds. Prior to that, he was the Deputy President of PKN Orlen S.A., the largest oil refiner and petrol retailer in the CEE region, where he was responsible for mergers and acquisitions (2004-2007), investing up to $3B in assets. He also held senior positions at Bank Pekao S.A. (1995-2004), including Managing Director and later Vice President of the Management Board.
Smorszczewski has extensive board experience. He currently serves on the boards of Moleo Sp. z o.o., Upaid Payments Solutions and Twisto. Previously, he was the President of the Supervisory Board of Pekao Leasing, Pekao Factoring and Centralny Dom Maklerski, and the Deputy Vice President of the Supervisory Board of AIG Poland and Amploci AIG Life S.A. Other board experience includes, but is not limited to: ATM S.A., eCard S.A., Lifebrain AG and ABC Data S.A.
Smorszczewski holds an M.B.A from the University of Chicago, an MA degree in Law from Warsaw University’s Department of Law and Administration and an MSc degree from Warsaw University of Technology’s Faculty of Water Management Engineering. He also completed post-graduate studies at the University of Turin and the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law (scholarship recipient).
