Atomico

(United Kingdom)

Mattias launched Atomico in 2006 alongside Niklas Zennström, actively looking for great founders and disruptive companies to work with.

During his time at Atomico, Mattias has been involved in exits or substantial transactions for companies including Supercell (multi-billion sale to SoftBank over two transactions in 2013 and 2015), 6Wunderkinder (acquired by Microsoft in 2015), The Climate Corporation (acquired by Monsanto for $1.1B in 2013), Xobni (acquired by Yahoo! in 2013), Massive Media (acquired by Meetic in 2012) and Power Reviews (acquired by Bazaarvoice in 2012).

A relentless advocate for the growing strength of European tech, Mattias focuses his time on fintech, gaming, medtech and communications.

He works closely with a number of portfolio companies on their expansion, and sits on the boards at FON, Truecaller, Uniplaces, LendInvest and Bossa Studios. He is also responsible for Atomico’s investments in Evrythng and global payments leader Klarna.

Prior to Atomico, Mattias was a venture investor focusing on consumer internet, enterprise and deep technology businesses. Investments included bid-up TV (sold to Telewest for $360m), Amino Technologies (LSE: AMO), Clearspeed (LSE: CSD) and Lunarstorm. He holds a Masters degree from the Stockholm School of Economics and a BA with Honors from McGill University.

He speaks Swedish and English fluently and likes to think that he can also speak Italian and French. A traveller (as well as investor) at heart, Mattias has lived in the US, Kenya, India, Italy, France, Canada, Scotland, Sweden and of course England. He completes a yearly trek in the Swedish Arctic in the hope that he can become at one with nature, despite the fact that he is a digitally-connected junkie.
